My deepest desire is to share the mysteries that I have found hidden in God's Word.
I'm so happy you're here.
I was saved in 1981 watching 700 Club. I’m from the small town of Chester, West Virginia. In those days, Chester only had a local cable company consisting of four channels. So, at 11:00pm, the choices were network news or 700 Club. I choose 700 Club and soon started praying the Sinner’s Prayer with them. One evening, about a week later, I heard Pat Robertson say, “There are people out there waiting for fireworks to go off before they’ll believe that they are saved. God says, "If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9).
He was talking to me.
I was expecting an earth-shattering experience! But several days later something happened that normally would have sent me into a rage, yelling and cussing at everyone. It occurred to me that not only was I not cussing, but I had not thought the words.
God had cleaned my potty mouth and mind.
I started looking for a church. The Presbyterian Church where I had gone my whole life barely said the name "Jesus" – and they definitely never spoke about being saved. There were six other churches in Chester but none of them seemed to be on-fire for God.
One Sunday morning, I visited a new little store-front church that everyone was suspicious about. That was the best move I ever made! I learned so much at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship with Clifford and Margaret Comm, Del and Mary Cooper, and the other 10-20 adults who attended. However, in 1992, Cornerstone Christian Fellowship closed and I got divorced, after 23 years of marriage.
It was an upside-down time in my life.
I swore I’d never marry again; being married had not been a good situation. After dating a couple of guys, I decided that I had very bad taste in men. Until...
You guessed it. Five years later I met my husband, Gray.
We dated for 1.5 years and planned to get married, but I still panicked at the thought of marriage and would often ask God if I was doing the right thing. I decided to trust Him – and Gray! We planned an outdoor wedding at the local state park. My grown children and my brothers, with their spouses, all helped to clean, set up chairs and tables, and hang wind chimes in the trees. When we were leaving the park to get ready for the wedding, we realized we had not heard the wind chimes all morning. After all the trouble we went through, there was no breeze. However, when the minister came to the part of the ceremony that said, “What God has put together, let no man tear asunder,” the wind chimes started ringing on one side and circled all around us!
God is glorious and my heart was filled with peace.
But that’s not the end of the story. Eleven years later, we had a devastating situation attack our marriage. The panic was back in full force. Crying out to God, I thought, “I can’t believe this is happening. What do I do?” I wanted to run and hide. Then God said, “This is why I gave you the wind chimes. It was for now.” He had known that I was going to need an anchor.
Our Heavenly Father was in control.
He brought us through that storm and we are stronger than ever. Our testimonies are powerful. They remind us and others what God has done and they are our weapon against the enemy and scoffer. Revelation 12:11 says, “They (the saints) overcame him (satan) by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.”
Unbelievers can argue scripture and doctrine all day long, but they cannot argue against your testimony, because you know, you know! what happened. There is nothing they can say to refute it. Satan is always trying to tell us that we are not really saved, or we don’t deserve God's forgiveness or help.
Our testimony reminds us of the times God has been at work in our lives.
So, dust off your testimony. It will give God praise and infuse you with confidence!
We will also keep you informed about an upcoming Bible Study on the "Messages in the Camp."
